On Monday night, Google released the guidelines that will allow interested developers to start building apps or Glassware as Google is calling them, for Glass. At the onset, developers will find several restrictions that will limit what they can and can’t do. For instance, developers can’t place ads in their apps (hooray!), collect user data for ads (that’s Google’s responsibility silly), or sell apps (software developers are so overpaid anyways).
These restrictions are reasonable for the most part if you consider the delicate implications the new technology could have for privacy concerns. Google is smartly taking the more prudent approach by tightly controlling how they are rolling out Glass to the public.
But hey! Don’t let that stop you from stretching your imagination! A year from now, who knows what the landscape will be like with wearable technology? In the meantime, here are some crazy app ideas I would love to see made into reality.
Remember that scene in Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol when Jeremy Renner’s character surreptitiously used special contact lenses to create exact photocopies of nuclear launch codes? Well, now you can too! With Eye Scanner, just blink twice and the app can scan any document and save it to Google Drive. Dropbox support will be available in the future.
Update: EYE_GESTURES_WINK_ENABLED = TRUE
Dude, where are you?
Can’t spot your friend in a crowd? Sync your Google Plus or Facebook account and Glass will use facial recognition technology to locate your friend from a dense crowd of faces
Struggling to find the strike zone lately? This app will display a handy strike zone perimeter at the batter’s box so that you know exactly where to throw. It’s like watching a game on ESPN, but you’re in it!
You thought that you could putt like Adam Scott using those fancy, high-tech broomstick putters and win a Masters? Here’s something better. This app allows you to instantly analyze the putting green so that you always read breaks perfectly.
Bird’s Eye View
Have poor vision? Squinting will never be the same again. This app will let you magnify your vision and see faraway objects by simply squinting or craning your neck forward. It’s that easy!

Stop glancing back at your slides every three seconds! With this app, you can track which slide you are on and even utilize a teleprompter.
Have any out-of-this-world ideas for Glass apps? Share them below in the comments! I’d love to read them.
