How to Download Youtube Videos via the Command Line

I don’t purport this tutorial as being the ideal way to download Youtube videos to your computer. A simple Google search will lead you to an assortment of options that requires less technical expertise. However, if you’re like me, and are relatively new to the command-line (think your OS without the GUI and a mouse), this might be an interesting way to accomplish something relatively useful (download Youtube videos to your computer) and also learn how to directly communicate with your computer.

7 Youtube Channels You Should Be Watching


Five years later, everyone’s beloved Youtube is now more popular than ever. With nearly 24 hours of new video uploaded to the site every minute and over two billion views recorded daily, Youtube will continue to grow at an unprecedented rate.

In this post, I would like to share with you some of my favorite and most-watched Youtube channels and users. I hope you find something interesting and learn something new. If not, you can share some of your favorites in the comments section.

“Twista ft. Do Or Die-do you” > “Charlie Bit My Finger”?

Two days ago, it was reported by Mashable that sitting atop Youtube’s most-viewed videos of all-time was a video named “Twista ft. Do Or Die-do you” with 79,441,058,538 views.

Hmmmmmm. Sure, seems fishy. I mean the world population is nearly 7 billion, and a couple of months ago, Youtube announced that it had reached 1 billion views per day. The video itself was uploaded on September 6, 2009, which is about 123 days ago. Thus, the video was supposedly viewed about 642 million times per day. Talk about a bandwidth hog

If you take a look at the all-time list now, it no longer shows the video with 79 billion total views, but rather a more realistic 67,000+ views. However, the video is still sitting comfortably at number one.
