For those of you who lurk around the Apple App Store charts, you may have noticed something interesting.
Over the weekend, an app called Pokemon Yellow rose the charts to #3, but there was a slight problem: it’s not real.
The application was associated with the developer called “House of Anime”, not Nintendo. To add insult to injury, this 99 cent application apparently crashed at the home screen, yet yielded the #3 spot on the app store charts. The developer addressed the crashing issue, but did not release a fix. Ars Technica did some sleuthing and discovered that the application was just an aggregation of youtube links and Pokemon news feeds.
As of February 21, Apple has removed the app from the App store, and this isn’t the first time they have done so.
