Stop the presses! Apple’s App Store has reached yet another milestone!
That’s right, just when you think the Apple App Store can’t surprise anyone anymore it comes out with big news: It just broke 25 billion app downloads, according to Apple’s webpage.
It is definitely a respectable feat, considering it broke 10 billion downloads just last January.
To put this in perspective, the App Store opened its digital doors in July 2008, a year after the debut of the original iPhone. Since then, it has more than 500,000 apps for the iPhone and 140,000 specifically for the acclaimed Apple iPad. Google’s Android App Store, the closest competitor Apple has in the mobile application business, opened in October of 2008 and broke 100 million app downloads last December.
To make things more exciting, one lucky winner will get a $10,000 Apple App Store gift card to spend. Apple has not announced a winner at this time.
